BBMP

Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) came into existence in 2007 with a purpose of providing services for civic and infrastructural sectors of Bangalore city. The BBMP is the city level of Government run by local city council which comes after Central and State Government.

Currently BBMP is divided into nine zones or City Municipal Councils (CMC), namely East, West, South, Rajarajeshwarinagar, Bommanahalli, Yelahanka, Dasarahalli, Mahadevapura, Krishnarajapuram along with 100 wards.

The East Zone is located at Mayohall near Bangalore Central and Public Utility Building. The West Zone is located at Sampige Road, Malleshwaram near Sampige theatre and Manthri Apartments. The South Zone is located at 9th cross Jayanagar, near Sonata Software. The Rajarajeshwarinagar Zone is situated near KEB office, 18th main. The Bommanahalli Zone is located near Begur Main Road. The Yelahanka Zone is situated near to L&T InfoTech, right next to Kodigehalli Signal. The Dasarahalli Zone is located near to Jalahalli Cross Signal, Hesaraghatta main road. The Mahadevapura Zone is located near Maruthi BEML Showroom behind Corporation Bank.

The city council which runs the civic body comprises of corporators who are elected from each ward once in five years. The criteria for contesting in election is that the member has to be a part of any political party of the state. First ever election was conducted in March 2010 after much delay.

The current Mayor of the BBMP is Mrs. Sharadamma and the Commissioner is Shri. Shankaralinge Gowda M.K., an IAS officer.
